From Concern to Confidence: A Ramp Built for Independence

Designed for Safety, Independence, and Outdoor Enjoyment

Helping someone move safely and confidently in and out of their home can make a meaningful difference in everyday life — and this recent project is a great example of how thoughtful design supports long-term independence.

Project Overview

We recently completed a custom EZ-ACCESS® 3G Pathway® aluminum ramp installation for a daughter who wanted her mother to be able to enter and exit her home safely and independently, without needing assistance every time. Her mother uses a rollator, so ensuring the ramp allowed for smooth navigation with minimal assistance was a top priority.

One of the homeowner’s main concerns was preserving her backyard and parking space, which are frequently used for family gatherings, events, and everyday use. She wanted a solution that provided accessibility without overwhelming the space.

Customer Story & Goals

During our initial conversation, the daughter shared how important it was for her mother to maintain independence while still being able to enjoy time outdoors. At the same time, she wanted to ensure the backyard remained functional for the family.

Affordability was also an important consideration. We reviewed both new and used ramp options, discussing how each choice could impact safety, comfort, and long-term usability. The family emphasized that the ramp needed to support the mother’s ability to navigate safely with a rollator and minimal assistance, while still fitting within their budget.

Assessment, Design & Planning

Our technicians completed the on-site assessment toward the end of the week, during which several possible ramp routes and configurations were reviewed with the family.

We explained the importance of maintaining a 1:12 slope ratio, ensuring the ramp would be safe, manageable, and comfortable for rollator use. After reviewing the layout options, the customer called us the following Monday to confirm she would like to move forward with a 4 ft x 4 ft platform and a 17-foot ramp run.

The final design balanced accessibility, safety, and space efficiency, while allowing the family to create an outdoor area where the mother could rest either on the platform or at the end of the ramp.

Installation & Timeline

End of week: On-site assessment completed

Monday: Customer confirmed ramp configuration

Friday: EZ-ACCESS® 3G Pathway® ramp installation completed

Our team was able to complete the installation efficiently while maintaining the highest standards of safety and quality.

Final Outcome

With the new EZ-ACCESS® 3G Pathway® ramp in place:

The mother can navigate the ramp with a rollator and minimal assistance

Entry and exit from the home are safer and more comfortable

Backyard space remains open for parking, gatherings, and events

The family now has a peaceful outdoor area where they can relax together

What began as a concern about space and accessibility resulted in a solution that supports independence, safety, and quality of life for the entire family.
